• More creative home repairs

I appreciate the Do-It-Yourselfer! After all, I am one of them. However, there is a time when it is time to call in someone more knowledgeable to do the job. After a recent home inspection, I’m looking for that creative contractor who demonstrated his/her ability to think outside of the box and fix problems in a way that I have never seen before! I would love to add him to my contractor list. Take a look at some examples of this DIY-ers innovative thinking and tell me what you think.

elect_garagelightwireelect_garagelightwire-2Need more light for your driveway on these long dark winter nights? Consider drilling a hole through your wall that is large enough to fit an extension cord and plug. If you don’t care for the industrial yellow color these cords also come in orange, red and black! They forgot to include this new wiring method in the electrical code book.

roof_soffittrepair_interestingConcerned about birds entering your attic area through the soffit vents? (a soffit-what? soffits are those holes drilled in your eaves to allow ventilation into your attic.) Some people replace the wiring mesh to prevent pest entry into their attic. The much trendier solution is to find some pieces of scrap wood sitting on the side of your neighbor’s house and shoving them into those holes. It is a win-win solution. Birds cannot nest in your attic but they can perch in your eaves – I’m expecting to see this look in new green construction.

    And my favorite…

ext_garagesensorsEver been annoyed by those pesky floor sensors that cause your garage door opener to not close? Well here is the solution! Install them on your garage ceiling. The only things that could get in their way is the wandering fly who hopes to escape before the door closes. Two added perks, the red and green LED add a Christmas look to the garage when all the lights are off. And it is a great conversation starter when friends are over.
