    Nerf Sewer Cap

In this inspection an RV sewer line had been installed to the septic tank and they decided that the best way to seal it is with a $10 solution – a nerf football. It looks like a nerf cannon – and if sewer gases built up there is a good chance of a flying nerf projectile!

By the way… this is not the proper way to tie into a septic system. And if this is how it is on the exposed end there’s cause for concern with the unseen end.

    Lincoln Log Home Security

This home was protected by a low-end home security system, Lincoln Logs. They were an effective window stop – I could only open the window by removing them. Think about all the possibilities of design options.

A Downspout Miss To Fix A Downspout Miss

The water from this downspout was missing the splash block tray below so this home owner made a noble repair effort. They propped the pipe to drain away from the house. Ironically, the very part they used is the missing elbow intended to direct water into the tray. If the old elbow was not pretty enough to match the newer white downspout, do you think this was a prettier option?

    Forgettable Air Return

This furnace filter was installed in a garage. This was an elegant house and parked nearby was a glorious car. Why would this be a dubious air filtration solution? First, the quality of air in the garage is sub-standard especially as the gas furnace, hot water tank, lawn mower gas cans and cars warming up fill the air with “forgettables”. Second, the filter was screwed into the sheet metal and at a height that would be difficult to maintain. Third, this is just hard to look at and not wonder, “Huh!?” Please, if you are thinking of doing something like this, FORGET IT!
