As an eager do-it-yourselfer I have done everything wrong at some point. It’s how we learn, right? I secretly grasp to the hope of future DIO (do-it-OVER) projects of my not so pretty DIY projects. WE DIYers do not usually do it right the first time, or second or third times! In the meantime, I invite you to join me in (respectfully) chuckling at our less-than-perfect efforts.
Bold Bathroom Racing Stripes
If a little dab will do ya’, a lot more is even better! Get the brightest and whitest caulk you can find and seal the edge of the bathroom floor next to the tub. Its like a racing stripe running down the cherry red hood of bathroom! If it smears to wide just add more until you have an even stripe. No need to worry about leftover contents in the tube, it will all be used by the time you are done!
Bathroom U-Traps
Since no one is probably gonna look under your bathroom sink, anything will work to connect your sink drain to the plumbing. After 13 years in the business and thousands of sinks, this was a first for me to see! These are normally called a “p-trap” due to the shape they require. This is called the “u-trap” for all the stuff you will trap in your sink.
Hole-y Beams
When garage door structural beams get in the way of your automatic door installation, just drill a hole and shove your opener through it. It may mean the door only opens halfway, but this is no big deal as long as you can still drag your recyclable can out to the garbage man (watch your head as you duck under the door). REMEMBER: If big beams of wood weren’t meant to be drilled, builders wouldn’t make them of wood!
