Okay, you’ve cleaned your tub and shower with the best cleaning solutions available. Yet the blackish, brownish bead around the perimeter persists. It looks dirty even after a thorough cleaning. You have to turn off the lights and use candles to relax when in the bathroom. So what are you to do?
It is time to replace the caulking around the tub and shower. Oftentimes new layers are simply applied over stained, existing layers. It looks good for a while but soon the organic growth expands and shows through. The best solution is to remove all the existing caulk and thoroughly clean the perimeter. Then you will use a caulking gun and a tube of silicone sealant specifically designed for bathroom or kitchen application. Folks at the hardware store should be help you to find the right stuff.
To remove the caulk you will need a putty knife, straight-edge razor, and gloves. Be careful that you do not scratch or damaged the tub/shower with these tools, especially if it is a fiberglass material.
