I saw this interesting thing on an inspection this summer. A bright shiny flue pipe from a wood stove was covered with hundreds of little dents on all sides. As I looked at it I was reminded of a pesky little wood pecker who would peck away on a transformer on a power pole in front of our home. It would beat away on the metal casing making an clinking sound like a dropped coin over and over again. Then one day it stopped – and in case you were wondering, I did not do ANYTHING to it!!
When I saw this battered piping I thought of the poor home owners who must have been driven mad by the annoying clinking on their metal stove pipe. The bird probably saw itself in the reflection as it did its fruitless work. I kinda felt bad for the wood pecker’s sore little beak! Anyone got a good idea for dealing with birds with health issues?
