Creativity abounds in the Northwest!

Here are more creative home repairs that I have seen in recent inspections. These prove that while some things have a single right way, there are many more areas where creativity abounds. Is there such a thing as a wrong way? You will have to decide!

Rain barrel slide

Why have one rain barrel when you can have half a dozen! Using leftover corrugated shed roofing you can fill all the barrels in just a few days of heavy rain. Then when the rain stops here in Seattle you have your own free water supply for the garden. This designer was still thinking through the easiest way to move a four-hundred pound garbage can of water to their garden… I left before she could get any ideas about my help moving them!

Eco-friendly door stop

This doorstop is made of 100% recycled material. When the jar of mayonnaise was empty the container headed to the recycle center while the lid found second life taped to the wall behind the bedroom door. Protecting walls from door damage can be as especially satisfying when keep items out of landfills! This creativity can inspire more ideas of door stops… dare I check Pinterest for someone who is selling these new door stops?

Designer chimney covers

A common household feature can be monumental (literally!) if you bring your creative flair to chimney covers. The whole neighborhood can drive by and admire what you did. It is true that one person’s trash is another’s person’s treasure! This is also a clear way to send a signal to Santa Claus this Christmas, “you’re not welcome here!”
