Magazines like Good Housekeeping, Better Homes and Gardens, Coastal Living and the IKEA catalog can be found throughout my house. While house decor and design are not my forte, I’ve learned a thing or two. So I thought I share some ideas from my home inspections to see if I am as skilled as my wife at Northwest home fashion and style!
There are many ways that you can maintain your home and live on the cutting edge of fashion and design. Here are some ideas for those of you looking for help.
IDEA #1
Outside faucets can double as a towel holder. When you finish working in the flower bed or checking the oil of your car it is close at hand. Practically, the faucet will be protected from freezing weather and easily found. Aesthetically, replace the towel design to keep up with the current trend.
IDEA #2
Initially you might think that your dog Fido got sick in the laundry room, but upon closer look you will see the art of this drain design! Usually laundry storage rooms have little aesthetic appeal and forethought. The current trend is to put puzzling art in unexpected places – this reminded me of Seattle’s MOPOP!
IDEA #3
Jurassic sidewalk! If you let tree roots get big enough they start to look like a dinosaur foot. If close enough to a slab of concrete it looks like something is squashing the T-Rex’s foot! People will stop to look at it every time they trip over it. And it is a great place to store your kids’ balls and toys when they have been playing out at the street.
IDEA #4
Oriented-Strand Board (OSB) is making a come back in house fashion! Its inexpensive and decorative in appearance. Bottom line, it looks great in every application! Many enjoy using it for window applications since it doesn’t shatter like glass and reduces unwanted daylight. OSB is the duct tape of house decor!
